In Windows 10, Sysprep also includes a VM mode, which generalizes a VHD that you deploy as a VHD on the same virtual machine or hypervisor. This mode supports rapid deployment of virtual machines. In Windows 10, your user profile is stored in the user’s profile folder, which contains various settings like sound, screensavers, desktop backgrounds, taskbar preferences and personal folders. All these settings ensure your personal preferences are used when you sign into Windows so that your PC looks and works the way you want it to. Windows 10 comes with several methods to change the guest account. While most Windows 10 computers are configured to be used with either Microsoft accounts or local accounts, there are IT pros.
Before getting started, you need to find the SID (security identifier) for your current Windows account. Press the Windows key + X shortcut, then select Command Prompt (Admin). At the Command Prompt, type the following command and press Enter.
As you can see from above screenshot, the SID for my currently logged-on user ends with 1001.
Press the Windows key + R shortcut to open the Run box. Type regedit and hit Enter.
- When the Registry Editor opens, navigate to the following key on the left pane:
Find your current account's SID on the right pane, and double-click on it to modify.
When the Edit String dialog box appears, copy and paste one of the following GUIDs into the Value data box, and then click OK.
GUID for each sign-in option:- PIN: {D6886603-9D2F-4EB2-B667-1971041FA96B}
- Picture Logon: {2135F72A-90B5-4ED3-A7F1-8BB705AC276A}
- Password: {60B78E88-EAD8-445C-9CFD-0B87F74EA6CD}
- Microsoft Account: {F8A0B131-5F68-486C-8040-7E8FC3C85BB6}
- Fingerprint Logon: {BEC09223-B018-416D-A0AC-523971B639F5}
In my example, I want to set Picture logon as the default sign-in option, so I typed {2135F72A-90B5-4ED3-A7F1-8BB705AC276A}. Note: A list of registered credential providers and their GUIDs can be found in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAuthenticationCredential Providers.
- When it's done, close Registry Editor. Log off or restart your computer. Windows 10 login screen will display your preferred sign-in option by default.

What is the Security Identifier (SID)?
A security identifier (SID) is a unique value of variable length used to identify a trustee. Each account has a unique SID issued by an authority, such as a Windows domain controller, and stored in a security database. Each time a user logs on, the system retrieves the SID for that user from the database and places it in the access token for that user. The system uses the SID in the access token to identify the user in all subsequent interactions with Windows security. When a SID has been used as the unique identifier for a user or group, it cannot ever be used again to identify another user or group.
How to change the SID?
In a WORKGROUP of computers running Windows, it is possible for a user to have unexpected access to shared files or files stored on removable storage. This can be prevented by setting access control lists on a susceptible file, such that the effective permissions are determined by the user SID. If this user SID is duplicated on another computer, a user of a secondcomputer having the sameSID could have access to the files that the user of a firstcomputer has protected. This can often happen when machine SIDs are duplicated by a disk clone, common for pirate copies. The user SIDs are built based on the machine SID and a sequential relative ID.
In order to duplicate SIDs prevention, the only supported Windows operating systems are through use of SysPrep the built-in Windows tool, which generates new SIDs. The following are the short steps on how to change the SIDs safely.
Check the current SID by running the following command in Powershell. In order to compare the change.
>whoami /all
Open Windows Explorer > Go to C:WindowsSystem32Sysprep, run the sysprep.exe
Tick the checkbox Generalize, then click OK to proceed with the change.
Sysprep is working, It will require a machine restart to re-settings.
Restart your machine, re-settings as Windows recommend.
Once done, try to run the command whoami /all for double-check after the change. The SID will be changed to another one.
